Nora and Daddy

We went to a little beach in Ellsworth with Erin's friend Ricia. Its what I'd call a "locals" beach - you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you and gave you directions. It was a nice, quiet little place to relax in my inner-tube. We didn't stay long though, of all the days to hit up the beach, today ended up being the coldest in days. Figures, right?

Why you don't feed wild animals: they get brazen and do things like bite you in the ankles for food. This one for instance was at one point under my chair while I was sitting in it, looking for a hand-out.

Reaction to the new blog style has been positive, so I think I'll keep it for a while!

Nora's got enough teeth now so that she's able to eat larger foods by herself with less "processing" by mommy or daddy. Erin took this picture while Nora was chowing-down on a sandwich!

Beach Day!

Nora and Erin went to the beach today. I stayed home to get some stuff done, relax, prepare for my final exam in College Algebra tomorrow.

Our daughter has become the little mimic, learning new words and repeating older ones as she recognizes them. She sees a shoe, she says "shoe." Today at the beach, she held up one of her beach toys (a plastic turtle) to everyone that walked by and said "turtle!" She had lots of fun in the sand, and has gotten over her fear of both "nature" and strangers. We're also hoping we can teach her to swim from an early age, so she doesn't end up with her father's inability to swim. I'm quite possibly the only person on Earth to fail swimming lessons as a child.

Erin's also experimenting with aromatherapy, hoping maybe that will help Nora sleep. Her cousin Christopher's wife Stephanie owns a small aromatherapy company in Southern Maine; Erin bought a couple small bottles to try them out. The instructions were all very thorough and well thought out, very professional. Check out "Peace be the Journey Aromatherapy" on Facebook.

Father's Day 2010

We just returned from Governor's here in Bangor. We treated ourselves to dinner to celebrate Father's Day - daddy (that's me) wanted fried clams and strawberry shortcake! Nora had a mini-cheeseburger which she really enjoyed, and was a pretty good girl for the most part. She had a few episodes of wanting to throw menus on the floor, and when she was done with her dinner, that too.

She was also fascinated by the train running along the ceiling, a fixture at every (?) Governor's restaurant that I'm aware of. Every time it would come by our direction, she'd look at it and scream "Weee!" over and over again. Will she develop daddy's love of trains? Think she already has! In any other restaurant, she may have been obnoxious, but Gov's is about as "Family" a restaurant as you can get without a scary clown and playground, so she fit right in and was very entertaining without being grouchy.

Ten days without a post? Surprised no one said anything!

Nora's been a cranky-pants the last few days. Very....vocal....and at inappropriate times of the day and night. Its been exhausting for all of us. We think it's possibly toothing pain from molars, she's got almost a full set of teeth now. It's not a constant ache either, because she's usually alright during the day.

June 4th, 2010

We took Nora to the doctor's office last night to check to see if maybe she had an ear infection, we had concerns that there may have been symptoms, and she had never had one before so we didn't necessarily know what to look for. She's fine, no ear infection. Got weighed: she's now officially 20 pounds! Almost 4-times bigger than her lowest weight at the hospital!

She's saying "ca-ca" and "no" more often now, as well as blowing kisses and waving more often to people. Lots of progress in just the last week!
