Happy 2nd Birthday!

Also, a Happy Birthday to Grammy Cathy!

To celebrate Nora's birthday and New Year's Eve, we went to Petco to see the animals (birds, fishies, lizards); then we went to Pizza Hut for PIZZA!!

Afterwards, we bought "Don't Let The Pigeon Drive The Bus!" by Mo Willems (the last of the pigeon books we don't own) at Borders with the birthday money sent to Nora by Great-Aunt Jeannette (thank you!). It was a good evening, and it was nice for the three of us to get out: Erin and Nora haven't felt very well all week (cold bug), so if Ms. Nora looks a little tired, its because she is!

I also wanted to add that her party is being held on the 8th of January - a Saturday - here in Bucksport, for anyone that can make it. Gifts are *optional*....we were going to say "gifts unnecessary" but we've already run into serious 'resistance' against that plan (tell someone they don't have to buy a little girl a present and they look at you like you have three heads or something). Hope you can make it! Bring yourself, and room for cake!!

Almost done with 2010!

Didn't get many pictures this Christmas. I think we were both exhausted by the whole process, and all three of us haven't been feeling well anyway.

Today is my brother Mike's birthday. Happy Birthday Uncle Mikey!

Here's a video that Erin made when we got home from the daycare with the doll Nora got as a gift from them:

And here's a video from our first snowfall of the year, at the new house!

Snow? Already? Blah! Its not even Winter! I was hoping for a mild one like last year. Meh. Maybe snow is a sign that it will be warmer, which would be good (colder air holds less moisture, thus less snow, global warming has the short-term effect of actually increasing snow in some areas). Nora apparently loves the snow, she took right to it, even ending up with a snow mustache from a small face-plant, and it didn't even phase her. Yay!

Anywho, here are some picts. Will upload video later!

New Home!

We're all moved-in, and I finally thought to put some photos on my USB drive to share with you while we wait for internet at the new place.

November 29th, 2010

Sorry it has been so long since an update. We're doing well, just busy!

A few weeks ago, one of Erin's friends and colleagues decided to rent out the house in Bucksport she's had vacant for a couple years, and we took it! We've been there now for just over a week, all moved in, but still getting things setup and out of boxes. Its coming along though and already feels like home.

The cat had a rough trip over and hid under the bed or in the closet the first day, but seems to have gotten used to the new place pretty quick. Nora loves it, lots of room to run around.

The Toyota finally pooped-out on us, so we're looking for another second car for cheap, let us know if you have one for sale. We're doing alright with the Focus at the moment, I've been getting up early and heading out with Erin and Nora, dropping them both off, then heading to campus early (hence the time I have right now to blog). But its not really a long-term solution.

Nora's a happy girl : yesterday, she kept turning mommy's clock radio on and dancing to the music, all while her poor mother was trying to sleep! Then later, she started doing slow spins to the kid's tunes we had playing on the TV in the living room, and slowly making herself dizzy until she fell over. Funny girl! Its good to know I'm raising a daughter that's happy and healthy. She's got a bit of a cold though she's still getting over; Thanksgiving was pretty rough with the sneezing, but now its mostly just in her chest, mostly when she's trying to sleep.

Will post pictures once I remember to upload them into my netbook (oops).

October 16th, 2010

So, Nora can count from 1 to 5, which we knew she could do to some degree, as Erin would count the "choo-choo's" to her in the roundhouse in the front of the train book she loves. What neither we nor the daycare knew was that she can recognize most (and sometimes all) of the numbers 1-9 and tell you what they are. Its advanced for her age that she can assemble her number puzzle, but to recite the name of each number as she's doing it?!

Blue's Clues

Sorry Elmo, but I think you've been replaced as Nora's favorite TV character by a little blue puppy called "Blue". Nora's started asking for "Blue's Clues" by name, even though she doesn't really say both words.

...ok, so maybe not replaced, she's still enraptured by new Elmo, but has seen the videos we have so much that she sometimes just walks away. She really does like Blue's Clues though.

Last weekend, we drove to South Paris for Nora's cousins' birthday party!

"Daddy told me ALLLLL about you, Uncle Mike....."

"What do you mean?"
Uncle Mike being silly with a Spider Man pinata.

"Daddy's family is funny."
"Uh...I was just going to pay some bills for you, that's all."

Spent a little time at the Maine Children's Museum here in Bangor, it was Half-Price weekend!

Did you know....that Nora loves lizards? Erin noticed it when they went to PetCo last week, and again today when the three of us were checking-out the Bearded Dragons at the museum (they have their own live animals, like lizards, snakes, turtles, and fish!). We knew Nora loves fish, but we weren't expecting the lizards to be popular.

August 14th, 2010

I was asked to preface this video by stating that Nora was saying "doot doot doot" over and over again, because Erin had been singing her the "Queen Nora" song, which is based upon something Grammy and Pepere did when Erin was a little girl. Think: Steve Martin as King Tut.

This post is formatted a little differently than the others; I used CSS to change some of the settings, and uploaded directly to Blogger instead of through YouTube. Can't say I recommend Blogger over YouTube, even though one owns the other...

This following video however was uploaded to YouTube, but "compressed" for size by Windows Movie Maker:

Now that I know how to make them small enough to upload in reasonable time on our el-cheapo DSL plan, maybe I can make and upload more video! Yay! Oh, and now that I have Windows Movie Maker once again, I think that 'El Mano' might be making another appearance.....

Nora napping
Nora has been *memorizing* the books we read to her, and has been much more insistent lately on having us read to her at times other than just before bed. There are a few books where she'll imitate the noises she knows comes on the page as soon as it's turned ("goggy!" "weee!").

She's also been very animated this past week: Erin said that when a show about Cats came onto Grammy Tina's television, Nora stood up, did a really ambitious dance, and went "kitty kitty kitty kitty kitty kitty!" over and over again! Our daughter is cat-crazy.

Still not really "walking" yet, she knows she gets around quite well crawling, but every now and then she'll use her ability to move standing-up to at least cruise from one piece of furniture to another.

She Walks!

That's right: Nora took two steps on her own earlier, and then three consecutive steps later in the day. Yay!!She also loves this book "How Kids Grow" and asked us to read it to her a half-dozen times today. We may be buying another copy sometime soon when she wears this one out! We think she especially likes the pictures of all the little kids, she's definitely a people-watcher.

The Nora Dance

Nora has been making great progress lately toward walking, we're certain that any day now she'll be doing it completely on her own! She now stands-up from sitting by herself without assistance (when she wants to) and has started even moving around while she's standing. Haven't been able to "catch" her doing it on video yet, but check this out:

"The Nora Dance"

(can you stand the cute?)

July 10th, 2010

I bought this float a couple weeks ago for the first trip to the beach all three of us made together. Erin and Nora love it: it keeps Nora upright in the water, which is just up above her waist, while allowing anyone watching her to get a little swim-time themselves and not have to hold her with both hands at all times. Plus, it has a sun-shade on it. Less than $20 at Walmart and worth every penny.

The Lapointes

I didn't want to post the good news until they had a chance to themselves: Emily and Jeremy had their baby Ethan on June 28th, my birthday too! You can read all about it on their blog, http://adayinthelifeoffirsttimeparents.blogspot.com/

Nora and Daddy

We went to a little beach in Ellsworth with Erin's friend Ricia. Its what I'd call a "locals" beach - you wouldn't know it was there unless someone told you and gave you directions. It was a nice, quiet little place to relax in my inner-tube. We didn't stay long though, of all the days to hit up the beach, today ended up being the coldest in days. Figures, right?

Why you don't feed wild animals: they get brazen and do things like bite you in the ankles for food. This one for instance was at one point under my chair while I was sitting in it, looking for a hand-out.

Reaction to the new blog style has been positive, so I think I'll keep it for a while!

Nora's got enough teeth now so that she's able to eat larger foods by herself with less "processing" by mommy or daddy. Erin took this picture while Nora was chowing-down on a sandwich!

Beach Day!

Nora and Erin went to the beach today. I stayed home to get some stuff done, relax, prepare for my final exam in College Algebra tomorrow.

Our daughter has become the little mimic, learning new words and repeating older ones as she recognizes them. She sees a shoe, she says "shoe." Today at the beach, she held up one of her beach toys (a plastic turtle) to everyone that walked by and said "turtle!" She had lots of fun in the sand, and has gotten over her fear of both "nature" and strangers. We're also hoping we can teach her to swim from an early age, so she doesn't end up with her father's inability to swim. I'm quite possibly the only person on Earth to fail swimming lessons as a child.

Erin's also experimenting with aromatherapy, hoping maybe that will help Nora sleep. Her cousin Christopher's wife Stephanie owns a small aromatherapy company in Southern Maine; Erin bought a couple small bottles to try them out. The instructions were all very thorough and well thought out, very professional. Check out "Peace be the Journey Aromatherapy" on Facebook.

Father's Day 2010

We just returned from Governor's here in Bangor. We treated ourselves to dinner to celebrate Father's Day - daddy (that's me) wanted fried clams and strawberry shortcake! Nora had a mini-cheeseburger which she really enjoyed, and was a pretty good girl for the most part. She had a few episodes of wanting to throw menus on the floor, and when she was done with her dinner, that too.

She was also fascinated by the train running along the ceiling, a fixture at every (?) Governor's restaurant that I'm aware of. Every time it would come by our direction, she'd look at it and scream "Weee!" over and over again. Will she develop daddy's love of trains? Think she already has! In any other restaurant, she may have been obnoxious, but Gov's is about as "Family" a restaurant as you can get without a scary clown and playground, so she fit right in and was very entertaining without being grouchy.
