September 30th, 2009

September is almost over with already! Where does the time go?

Just a quick post, I really should be studying for a test tomorrow.

Erin says that Nora loves the color red; the topic came up yesterday as I was holding Nora and she seemed fascinated by my bright-red shirt. Also, Nora made it very clear last night before bed that she needed some Daddy-time, and I was more than happy to oblige!

She's still insanely cute and adorable of course. We were worried on Monday about her return to daycare, as she's proven that long-weekends tend to make her cranky upon returning, and this past weekend for her was even longer than the last: four days instead of just three. But we were told that she was in good spirits and drank her bottles in addition to her solid foods, something that she doesn't always do if she's cranky.

We also received another book from Erin's grand-aunt Jeannette (thank you!), whom we hope to see this coming weekend as we travel to Waterville for a quick visit.

Also: think about which picture you would like to use as the "September 2009" picture of Nora, like the examples on the side of the website showing her progress since birth, and let me know which picture I should post in that column. If you have your own that I haven't posted, send me a copy!

September 26th, 2009

Ok, so these weren't taken today, or even this week, they're from earlier this month. Tina took them and emailed us; I've been sitting on them for a few days while I worked on school and home projects. Now that it's Saturday night, I thought I'd post them! Homework is done (earlier than anticipated), and I'm ready to play catch-up on "elective" projects.

Eye Appointment

Erin took Nora to her eye appointment today; Dr. Lavin is by many the leading "baby-optometrist" in the State (he was recommended by the acting pediatrician that wanted Nora checked, and by our eye doctor who immediately thought of him when we mentioned to her that we were taking Nora to just such an optometrist).

It looks as if Nora isn't cross-eyed, but she does have a small issue with her left eyelid drooping a little lower than the other. Dr. Lavin isn't terribly concerned; he told Erin to bring her back in a year for a check-up, and give him a call if it gets any worse before then. Otherwise, it's not that big an issue. Again, its my philosophy that if this is the worst of Nora's problems, then I'm more than happy.

Addendum, an example of the "Gordon Eye" that my mom and I spoke about: This picture is from one of my grandfather's brothers.

Nora Sitting-Up!

That's right, Nora can stay sitting-up all by herself. Can't get there by herself yet, but it's progress!

Farm Day

The family went with some of Erin's friends to one of the local farms that has this whole open house thing complete with ice cream, corn maze, pumpkin patch, goat-petting 'zoo', and apple trees you can pick off yourself. Got some picts of Nora there!

September 17th, 2009

Just a quick update:

Nora had/has a bit of a cold, nothing major. She's a little congested, more so this past weekend, but not enough to be taken out of daycare. Could just be allergies, I still have yet to get sick, and more importantly I don't think Erin was or is (she seems to get them easier). Nora was running a little warm at one point, but the doctor's office we called said that technically it wasn't even deemed a 'fever' until it hit a higher point, and it never did. So all of you worried grandma's out there, there's no concern!

Erin's doing well, I'm doing well, Olivia's doing well. We're all a bit exhausted, but hopefully less today: Nora slept better last night, less waking up and screaming. I removed the a/c from the window the other day, and I think she had gotten used to the white noise. Between that and her cold, I realized that at the very least I had to replace the a/c with the air purifier that I had in her nursery. Maybe that helped.

My Beautiful Girls

As promised, here's a new picture of Erin and Nora!

Some pictures of Nora in the park with Erin and Grammy Tina:

For those that are concerned, Erin holds Nora the whole way down, only giving her the illusion of sliding...but she still seems to enjoy it.

...and she really likes the swings!

Harold Alfond Scholarship Challenge

More good news! I wrote to the people administering the Harold Alfond Scholarship Challenge and told them that while Nora was due in 2009, she was born premature just short of this year; they got back and said that she should be eligible, that they can make exceptions for just such a circumstance, and that we should apply and forward their message along with the application.

If your child was born (or due) in 2009 as a Maine resident, you too may be eligible:
